Company Founders

catherine Catherine Skinner

Since surviving theatre school (Theatre Humber), Hamilton Ontario native Catherine Skinner has tried a few careers on for size: actor, event coordinator, arts administrator, director, producer, talent agent, costume designer, writer and marketing director.

As co-founder and Artistic Director of Les Coquettes, she has found a home for all those hats, as well as an excuse for her love of vintage lingerie and beautiful people. Her duties for the troupe include appearing as La Minouche, Mistress of Ceremonies for each Les Coquettes show, costuming the lovely ladies and gents of Les Coquettes, directing the performances and managing the troupe.

kathryn Kathryn Romanow

Kathryn Romanow is the co-founder, Choreographer and Production Manager for Les Coquettes. She has been dancing since she was three and is trained in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Baton and standing on her head. She also has a Theatre Performance Diploma and is a trained singer.

Last year, with her business partner Catherine, she started the Les Coquettes Academy and began training “virgins” in the art of burlesque. The Academy provides a safe haven for amateurs to learn the way of her alter-ego Lilli Bubalotovich.

When Kathryn is not singing or dancing about her “girls” she enjoys horseback riding, hanging around in aerial silks, volunteering at the Toronto Zoo and building her health and wellness business with Arbonne International.

The Les Coquettes Experience

A Les Coquettes evening is nothing like a traditional stage show. Audiences don’t sit back and clap politely from their cabaret tables. A Les Coquettes performance is an intimate, sensual party that invites fans to play along, and catcalls and whistles are always encouraged.

Male and female “Coquettes” descend upon a venue and make it their own. Utilizing each space to maximize audience interaction, they kick down the fourth wall with fishnet-clad enthusiasm, gently coaxing patrons to relax, have fun and check their inhibitions at the door.

Les Coquettes’ commitment to understanding audiences ensures that the show experience is tastefully provocative, with humour peppering the sizzling moments that unfold before the audience’s eyes. The envelope is pushed just enough to tease and titillate, but never so far that audience members are made to feel alienated. It’s a show that a vivacious grown-up of any age will love.

Les Coquettes is a collective of highly trained professional dancers, comedians, singers, cirque and theatre artists.  Show quality is top-notch with polish and panache, a factor that never goes unnoticed. In the style of turn-of-the-century dance hall entertainment, Les Coquettes offers a wide variety of acts to guarantee an unforgettable evening of entertainment.
